Fluffy is gone

Rare Romanian spotted leopard escapes Durham Zoo and has the town in a terror. The leopard formally known as a Fluffy has disappeared from its cage overnight and zoo officials has no sign where she could be.

There are no signs of how the cat could have escaped. The fencing of her cage was appeared to be unbroken and she was last seen in her cage that Sunday night, when the zoo closed at 9pm.

Police Chief William Blair outlined a search for Fluffy.  “We will first search every inch of this zoo. If possible, Fluffy will be shot with a tranquilizer gun,” explained Blair. Making a point that there is a slight chance Fluffy have been wandering around the zoo. “If we can’t find her in the zoo will began to search the neighborhood at 11am,”Blair added.

Fluffy is known at the zoo for being a warm and gentle cat that has never hurt anyone. She is one of only and five such animals in existence and her missing can be a danger to the community. Fluffy is not a domestic cat, she is a carnivore whose diet consist largely old chickens that are thrown into her cage.

The escape of this rare leopard has angered many residents who brings their children to the zoo are now in fear of what Fluffy might do. “I want my money back, and then I’m never coming back here again. This place is out of control,” said an angry father who brought his daughter to the zoo.

 Kitty Smith, the zoo’s chief zoologist explained what danger Fluffy can be if she is not in the right place at the right time. “If these cats are cornered or encountered on a dark night or in dark alley their defense is to kill, and quickly,” said Smith.

Fluffy may have been a very warming cat when at the zoo, now that she may have been taken out her comfort zone there’s no telling what she is capable of. These leopards were driven to the brink of extinction in Romania because of their appetite for children.

The search for Fluffy will be in full effect while children are in school. “We have to find her by 2pm. If we don’t it could be a very messy night. These cats are nearly impossible to find in the dark,” said Blair

The leopard is all black with white spots if she is not found during the day it can be a long night for The New Hampshire State Police and State Wildlife Department who helping conduct the search with officials. Fluffy will be hard to find animals like her see clearly in the dark better than any human eye.

The safety of the community and Fluffy is the main priority at this time. This is the first time the Durham Zoo has an encountered an incident like this. No animal has ever been reported missing.

The search for Fluffy will continue on and soon she will be right back in the zoo safe and sound.
