Larry Kessler, a longtime crusader for people living with HIV the newly executive director has brought the Boston Living Center back to its feet from the past financial strained it had with the past executive director, who had stolen money to feed his gambling habits.

The center began 22 years ago after a group of friends held a dinner to give people with HIV and AIDS a place of acceptance and belonging.

Station Night Club

Walter Castle Jr., 39 was 30 seconds from dying that fatal night 10 years ago. “People that weren’t here really don’t understand why we can’t let this stuff go...” said Castle Jr. who gathered with some of the survivors and friends for the remembrance of the Station nightclub fire.

    Wednesday marks the 10^th anniversary of the blaze. Many brought flowers and handmade crosses to remember those who had lost their lives that night at the West Warwick, R.I Station Club fire in 2003.

Famous Parrots dies at 31

The African gray parrot, Alex died last week of natural causes at the age of 31. After establishing himself on television shows, scientific reports, and news articles as the world’s famous talking bird his ability to learn the English words amazed many.

What you didn’t see: The Grammys

This past Sunday was the 55^th Annual Grammy Awards show. Not too many were anxious to view the show. Between all the performances and commercial breaks there was only 11 grammys actually presented that night during the show. What people don’t know is that there was a pre-telecast ceremony before the show which 71 grammys were presented. As you are glued to the TV watching the stars work the red carpet and you hear that Beyonce has won 2 grammys of the night before the show has even started. Many viewers don’t realize how long the show would actually take to present 81 grammys on one televised show. The grammy show is known for their surprised performances, many was surprised that a Whitney Houston tribute wasn’t done. One of the controversial moments of the night was that the couple Chris Brown and Rihanna was seated together being that 2 years before that was the fatal beating of her after the same grammy show. Although the grammy show is one of the biggest music award show there is a lot that you do not see.

Parking Wars

Once the blizzard is over let the games begin, the game of parking wars that is. In a city like Boston in areas like Mattapan and Dorchester residents go to the extreme to make sure their parking spot is kept. After every blizzard comes long days of shoveling once you have put all your sweat and energy into making that spot your are going to make sure no one takes that spot from you. Residents go as far as placing beach chairs, traffic cones, and broken dressers. Placing these objects indicates that parking spot is reserved. By removing it can cause a feud around the block. Is that even legal to do? Preventing someone from parking by putting an object there to save it. For years that have been the routine in Boston driving through neighborhoods you will find either cars or chairs aligned up and down the street. It’s interesting to see the lengths people will go to keep their spots.

Being a Lazy Writer

Adapting to the requirements of News writing is really hard. Reporting and developing a story is where I struggle and the amount of effort I put into my writing. I’m kind of a lazy writer, writing a personal essay is completely different from covering stories. I need to start getting into reading more news articles. I love reading magazines because I wouldn’t mind working for a magazine in the future. But getting into news is what I need to adapt too. It’s funny how I’m trying to fulfill a major in journalism and I’m not really in to news that much. I love to write but I hate reading and those things go hand in hand. Now that I’m enrolled into 2 reading intensive classes I will begin to love reading more. I also need to get out of the habit of being a lazy writer. Being lazy doesn’t really get you far neither does being a lazy writer.

Mill Road accident

A fatal car accident left three teenagers severely injured. Sunday night a white Mustang swerved off the road, hit an embankment, and flipped on its roof. One crawled out to safety the other two were recused and sent to the Memorial Hospital in Belmont.

“I’ve never seen a car going so fast on this road. It’s a dirt road, and it’s really easy to lose control”, said by eye witness Josie M. Crandall. Crandall happened to look put her window at 9pm and saw the vehicle speeding down the road.

The driver of the car was Jamie Peterson, seventeen years-old was able to crawl out of the car on his own.

Getting the right one...

I had a hard time looking for the right story. So I went to the TNH weekly meetings to find some interested story ideas I came across “Campus listening-How do you listen to your music?” Surveying students about how they listen to music now that technology is advancing with different kinds of applications that allow people to listen to music and share music. There are people who listen to music the old fashion way by listening to vinyl on record players. I thought it would be interesting to know how many students do listen to vinyl records. I went all over downtown and through the union court to find students either studying while listening to music. It was very interesting to hear how many students still had vinyl records and who enjoy using them. They were students that didn’t use any apps like Pandora, Spotify, or Songa. Many people just use iTunes as their source of music. It was fun!!
